Why do we use Biodegradable Bags?

We as a company believe it’s extremely important to be as eco-friendly as we can. That’s why we’ve introduced Biodegradable bags. When you receive your delivery it will be in one of these eco-friendly bags. We all regularly see those awful photos popping up on all our social media newsfeeds of those horrific images of those poor innocent animals that continue to be victims of plastic bags.

What is the difference between plastic bags and biodegradable bags?

Biodegradable plastic bags take around three to six months to completely decompose. Unlike plastic bags, which can take up-to several hundred year’s to decompose!

What allows biodegradable bags to decompose so quickly?

If something is ‘biodegradable’ it usually means this product is made from plant-based materials, for example- cornstarch and wheat as opposed to petroleum. This allows living things such as fungi and bacteria to break it down in the environment.

How do plastic bags effect animals?

Many animals of all species are effected by plastic bags especially Fish, seabirds, sea turtles, and marine mammals, as they can become easily entangled in or ingest plastic debris, causing all sorts of problems such as suffocation, starvation and drowning, which leads to a very slow painful death. Pretty horrific! Sadly, plastic waste kills millions of animals a year.

And even worse... because a plastic bag can take up to a thousand years to break down, once an animal dies and decays after ingesting plastic debris it is then freed again, back into the environment to continue killing other wildlife. It’s a never ending cycle.

These are just a few of the problems caused by plastic bags... horrendous. This is why we believe it’s so important to try and be as eco-friendly as possible and why we use
Biodegradable bags for all our deliveries.
